Databases have been certainly designed to help people manage their data more easily and efficiently. There are various types of databases however and each of them has been designed for a particular purpose. The distributed database is a software database in which the storages devices are not all attached to the same CPU. This means that relevant information may be stored and then retracted from different computers. The computers will however be located in the same physical location or they will be linked through a network. Distributed databases thus make collection of data easily distributable across multiple locations and even thought this may seem little impressing one must thing about the advantages. This type of database software makes it possible for different individuals to use data stored on another computer. In an office for instance, this database implies that the same information must not be stored on each computer because the different users may access it directly from a different computer. These databases are in the end meant to improve the performance of the end-user and they work as such.
In a distributed database however one must ensure that the databases are up to date and current and this is usually done through replication and duplication. Replication is concerned with using specialized software that searches for changes in the system updating all the databases in case any changes were found. At the same time, the duplication process is aimed at identifying one database as the master and duplicating it. The changes are however only allowed when it comes to the master database and this is in order to ensure that local data was not overwritten. This process is commonly referred to as an easier and less time consuming.
