Types of Databases

With computing technology growing to new heights, many people understand that harnessing information is one of the greatest concerns in the new era. As such, the actual time period has been dubbed the Information Age, with people having more access to information than ever before. This is mainly because information storage has grown in its capability and many people can use the Internet to retrieve information at a rapid speed. By utilizing the many types of databases, this information can be organized and connected in a worldwide system.

When speaking of a database, there are several different types that might be used. One of the most popular of these types is called an active database, which is essentially driven by individual increments in time that can happen inside or outside of the system. An excellent example of the active database system is found in security monitoring systems that are controlled by computers. These monitoring systems can record movement based on time systems or could have other database triggers that activate the capture of information.

In terms of pure data and information storage, there is only one of the types of databases that can handle the gigantic loads of data needed for the Internet. This type is called a cloud database and is found when all of the data is kept in the cloud rather than on local machines. Although nearly every use of the Internet would classify as a cloud database, there are some that are better examples than others. An information website, such as the IMDB, allows a visitor to access the information using a browser rather than a direct connection to the information. By acting as a proxy, the website is a good example of the cloud database type. There are many other types of databases in use and a person can research for examples.
